Governor Bobby Jindal Announces Appointments to the Residential Building Contractors Subcommittee

BATON ROUGE, LA - May 20, 2009 - (RealEstateRama) — Yesterday, Governor Bobby Jindal announced appointments to the Residential Building Contractors Subcommittee.

The Residential Building Contractors Subcommittee serves to conduct hearings on alleged violations by residential building contractors and to issue, suspend, modify or revoke residential contractor licenses. Recommendations made by the subcommittee are subject to the final approval of the State Licensing Board for Contractors.

According to statute, the subcommittee is comprised of five gubernatorial appointments. Members must be actively engaged in residential contracting, of whom three are selected from nominations submitted by the Louisiana Homebuilders Association.  One member of the subcommittee must be appointed to represent congressional districts one and six, one member to represent congressional districts four and five and one member to represent each of the remaining congressional districts.

Appointments to the Residential Building Contractors Subcommittee:

Kay Gibson, of Lafayette, is the co-owner of M&K Gibson Construction, Inc., a real estate and construction company, and a member of the National Association of Homebuilders. Gibson was nominated by the Louisiana Homebuilders Association to serve as a representative of the 7th Congressional District who is actively engaged in residential contracting, as required by statute.

Billy Ward, Jr., of Port Allen, is the owner of Champion Builders, LLC, a homebuilding company and a member of the Capital Region Builders Association Board of Directors. Ward was nominated by the Louisiana Homebuilders Association to serve as a representative of the 1st and 6th Congressional Districts who is actively engaged in residential contracting, as required by statute.
