Intersections of Iberville and Canal Streets at Bourbon Street

NEW ORLEANS –- (RealEstateRama) — The City of New Orleans construction contractor, Hard Rock Construction, LLC, will close Iberville Street at the intersection of Bourbon Street to through traffic beginning Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at 8 a.m. and lasting for approximately three weeks. The Iberville intersection closure is in addition to the lane reduction on Canal Street already underway. Public safety is our top priority; residents and commuters are reminded to use caution when driving, bicycling and walking near this construction site.

The three-week closure of the intersection of Iberville and Bourbon Streets is necessary for construction crews to connect the newly installed utilities in the 100 block of Bourbon Street to the new utilities planned in the 200 block of Bourbon Street. Crews are currently reconstructing the roadway and its underground utilities as part of the French Quarter Infrastructure Improvement Project.

The Canal Street lane reduction was required to connect the new water and drainage lines in the 100 block of Bourbon Street to the City’s water and drainage system. The lane reduction was originally scheduled to last two weeks but is slightly delayed due to inclement weather. Asphalt placement on Canal Street is now scheduled for the week of June 5.

Drivers may use N. Rampart and Decatur Streets as alternate routes to Bourbon Street and Poydras Street as an alternative route to Canal Street. Signage and traffic control measures such as barrels will be onsite to direct drivers and pedestrians.

The $6 million reconstruction project calls for removing and replacing existing water and drainage lines, repairing the sewer line, repaving the roadway in concrete, installing new sidewalks when necessary and installing Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps at intersections.
