Washington, DC – July 7, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — Congressman Steve Scalise was recently named a Champion of the Merit Shop by the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) and a Defender of Economic Freedom by the Club for Growth in its latest round of Congressional scoring.
“I am honored to earn these prestigious awards for the work I’ve done in Congress to create jobs and cut wasteful Washington spending,” Scalise said. “In order to help our economy grow and create jobs, we have to get our fiscal house in order and return to the free market principles our country was founded upon. I will continue to fight for pro-growth policies to lower taxes and rein in wasteful Washington spending so we can get our economy back on track and preserve this American dream for future generations.”
“It is an honor to recognize Congressman Scalise for his voting record on issues we feel to be the most significant to the commercial and industrial construction industry,” said 2011 ABC National Chairman Michael J. Uremovich, president of Great Lakes Energy Consultants, LLC.
“Congressman Scalise has been a strong advocate for the principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual liberty and personal responsibility,” Uremovich said. “We are thankful for all his efforts on behalf of the more than 23,000 merit shop construction contractors that work and live in Louisiana, and across the nation.”
“With his score of 98, and a lifetime score of 94, Congressman Scalise has demonstrated that he is on the side of economic freedom not just at election time, but every time,” said Club for Growth President Chris Chocola. “The Club for Growth values Members of Congress who stand on principle over political expediency. The people of Louisiana are lucky to have strong pro-growth representation in Congress.”
The Associated Builders and Contractors give this award to Members of Congress who support the free enterprise ideals of the merit shop philosophy through legislation that impacts the commercial and industrial construction industry.
The Club for Growth based their ranking on votes in the House during the second session of the 111th Congress. The Defender of Economic Freedom award is given to members who scored 90 percent and above in 2010 and have a lifetime score above 90 percent.
