NEW ORLEANS – (RealEstateRama) — Mayor Mitch Landrieu joined City and State officials, and community stakeholders to break ground on the $3.8 million Michoud Boulevard Reconstruction Project. Construction will stretch from Chef Menteur Highway to Dwyer Road in New Orleans East.
“The Michoud Boulevard Reconstruction Project continues to move New Orleans East in the right direction,” said Mayor Mitch Landrieu. “With each road we repair, we put New Orleans on the path to prosperity and remake the City as she was always meant to be.”
The Michoud Boulevard Reconstruction Project is a full reconstruction of the roadway, including replacing the existing water, sewer and drainage lines; repaving the roadway in concrete between the Michoud Bridge and Dwyer Road; repaving the roadway in asphalt from the Michoud Bridge to Chef Menteur Highway; installing new sidewalks and Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps at intersections; and striping with high-visibility crosswalks.
Sewerage & Water Board Executive Director Cedric Grant said, “Today’s groundbreaking highlights not only the work that will be done across the City, but also the opportunities it will create. The $3.8M Michoud Boulevard Reconstruction Project paves the way for future investment and development in New Orleans East.”
District E Councilmember James Gray III said, “The condition of Michoud Boulevard has hampered the ability of local businesses to carry on day-to-day operations and has aggravated our local residents to no end. Our community has complained loudly and extensively. We have heard your complaints and prioritized this construction.”
Village de L’Est Neighborhood Association President Ed Blouin said, “This is great. We are very excited about Michoud Boulevard Reconstruction Project. It’s been a long time coming and we’re glad this day is here.”
The Michoud Boulevard Reconstruction Project is bond-funded, was designed by Evans-Graves Engineers, Inc., and is being constructed by Cycle Construction Company, LLC. Construction began on Michoud Boulevard last month and is anticipated to be completed in summer 2018.
During construction, residents can expect to experience temporary impacts such as limited access to areas within the construction zone, movement of heavy equipment and elevated noise levels. Residents are urged to pay attention to construction safety signage and remain outside of designated construction areas. The City and its contractor will minimize impacts and keep residents well informed of construction activities.
