City Launches Revamped Roadwork.nola.gov Online Tool Allowing Residents to Get Block-by-Block Details on Infrastructure Improvements across New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS – (RealEstateRama) — The City of New Orleans launched a revamped roadwork.nola.gov external link online tool, allowing residents to search by their address to get block-by-block details on planned, active and completed infrastructure improvements across the city. The revamped roadwork.nola.gov external link web site shows ongoing coordination on road, water, sewer and drainage construction by the City’s Department of Public Works (DPW) and Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWB). The City will update projects bi-monthly, providing residents with the most accurate view of infrastructure improvements occurring across New Orleans.

“With billions in major road and infrastructure improvements hitting our streets in the next few years, we are working harder than ever to ensure that this roadwork is fully integrated,” said Mayor Mitch Landrieu. “This enhanced online tool is another way for our residents to be better informed of roadwork in their neighborhoods and plan ahead to avoid construction-related traffic disruptions when getting around town. This work is unprecedented in our City’s history, and these infrastructure improvements will create jobs and make New Orleans stronger and even more resilient.”

Created with the user experience in mind, the new and improved, mobile-friendly roadwork.nola.gov external link website has a clean design, improved functionality and enhanced content. Some of the new “block-by-block” features include: pavement condition, planned work and anticipated schedule, type and scope of repairs, what to expect during construction and more.

UNPRECEDENTED CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM
The City and Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans are working together to implement an unprecedented program to restore the City’s damaged infrastructure. Using a combination of local and Federal funds, the $2 billion program will be the most comprehensive that our region has seen in a generation. Work will include more than 200 individual projects and consist of repairing all or portions of about 400 miles of roadway. There will be several types of construction: Full Depth Reconstruction external link; Patch, Mill and Overlay external link; Patch Concrete external link; Incidental Road Repairs; external link Bridges external link; Non-Paving Incidentals external link and Streetscapes external link.

HISTORIC INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM UNDERWAY
Through the rate increase approved by New Orleans City Council in 2012, bond rating upgrades for sewer and water, and the recent bond sale, SWB’s capital improvement program is funded for the first time in 25 years. This work is being paired with the City’s Capital Improvement Program, combining to create one of the largest infrastructure improvement efforts in the history of New Orleans.

Cedric Grant, Executive Director of Sewerage and Water Board and Head of Integrated Infrastructure for the City, said, “We are now positioned to not only repair our aging infrastructure, but also build a more resilient system that can handle the challenges of the future. We are making great strides and continue to ask for residents’ patience as we continue forward. This new website provides an intuitive, user-friendly experience and is a great way to stay informed on our progress.”

The City will continue to integrate additional features to the roadwork.nola.gov external link as information becomes available.
