Governor Jindal said, “This loan will fund key water system improvements that will strengthen Hornbeck’s existing infrastructure and will further support more than $1.2 million in water projects we’ve already funded here in Vernon Parish since 2008. We’ll continue supporting strategic water system improvements throughout our state because they help us continue Louisiana’s economic momentum and improve the quality of life of our people.”

The DEQ Clean Water State Revolving Fund Loan Program provides loans to local municipalities for vital water infrastructure improvements to ensure safe and clean wastewater infrastructure.

The CWSRF program forgives loans to municipalities for certain “green projects” because they meet national energy efficiency and water conservation standards. The Governor said the loan awarded today will fund two key “green” wastewater improvement projects in Hornbeck. As a result, the CWSRF program will forgive the loan to Hornbeck, allowing the award to function like a grant. The projects include:

The Replacement of existing water meters with new Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) and a Water Meter and Leak Detection System to detect leaks and needed repairs earlier, allowing Hornbeck to save on energy costs and conserve water.
The replacement of meter boxes, inverted key valves, outlet dual check valves and all necessary couplings on each existing service line within the town’s existing water distribution system.
