When Hurricane Katrina struck in 2005, all eight residential buildings were destroyed. In July, Sen. Landrieu announced $2.7 million for Milne Home to build four residences. Today’s funding will allow Milne Home to rebuild another residential building. The residents have been living in Laurel, Miss., since they were evacuated shortly before the storm hit. Since 1838, the home has provided care, treatment and community services for developmentally disabled women.
“Milne Home has provided care and comfort to individuals with developmental disabilities Southeast Louisiana for over 150 years. Today’s announcement will bring the women of Milne Home are one step closer to their new residence and one step closer to coming home to Louisiana,” Sen. Landrieu said. “As Milne Home continues its construction in Waldheim, I remain committed to seeing our communities in St. Tammany Parish and around Louisiana rebuilt stronger and better.”
