New Orleans Regional Transit Authority Approves $4.4 Million Service Expansion Plan

NEW ORLEANS – (RealEstateRama) — The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA) Board of Commissioners approved $4.4 million of transit service enhancements. These changes include earlier start times and 24-hour service on many routes used by commuters to access downtown employment centers, education facilities and medical care. These improvements will be implemented beginning Sunday, April 17, 2016.

“Efficient and reliable public transit is absolutely essential for our residents and visitors to get around our city,” said Mayor Mitch Landrieu. “These expanded services will help commuters reach their destinations faster with minimized wait times between buses. In addition, neighborhoods like St. Bernard, Gentilly, the Ninth Ward and New Orleans East will see more RTA service under this expansion and our residents will have better access to medical facilities, retailers, schools and employment opportunities.”

Services will include a 5 a.m. start time for more than 20 routes and 24-hour services on nine bus routes. The $4.4 million investment will also include an Airport Express route to accommodate airport employees, residents and tourists as well as additional buses on select routes. Improvements will help to provide efficient and on-time operations.
