Washington, DC – December 3, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — Congressman Steve Scalise successfully worked to pass legislation today that encourages banks and mortgage servicers to work with families affected by toxic Chinese drywall to allow temporary leniency without penalty on payments on their home mortgages. Scalise is a co-sponsor of H.Con.Res. 197 which passed by a vote of 419 – 1.
“Many Louisiana residents are still experiencing significant difficulties getting back into their homes because of toxic Chinese drywall. We are encouraging banks to work with these families on their mortgage payments as they struggle to rebuild their homes yet again,” Scalise said. “I will continue pushing the federal agencies involved with investigating the toxic drywall to make sure their findings include solutions for the families affected.”
