Washington, D.C. – February 11, 2016 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) issued the following statement regarding last night’s U.S. Supreme Court decision to stay implementation of President Obama’s Clean Power Plan (CPP) until current litigation is resolved.
“The President’s Clean Power Plan has major potential for devastation, not the least of which includes killing thousands of jobs and raising electricity prices for American families. The Supreme Court’s decision to stop its implementation until the EPA figures out its legal troubles is a huge win for States, a broad range of stakeholders, and America’s job creators in the energy industry,” said Vitter. “The Obama EPA has ensured their legacy will be wholly defined by their incessant need for increased, unprecedented regulatory authority. That has the potential to shut down entire industries, including one of the nation’s most proliferous sources of electricity – coal-fired power plants. In blocking the CPP’s implementation, SCOTUS has granted us time to continue our ongoing fight to protect American jobs and dismantle the Obama EPA’s far-left liberal plan.”
As a senior member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, Vitter has been fighting the Administration’s many efforts to impose rules and regulations that would result in significant economic costs with negligible environmental benefits. Since 2010, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has implemented regulations that have already led to the closure of 410 coal-fired power plants, including one in Louisiana.
