“Repairing these water mains is another example of how New Orleans is rebuilding smarter and stronger after Hurricane Katrina. Building functioning water mains allow our city to handle flooding from rain and storms and help mitigate against preventable damage. Properly working water mains are crucial to providing safe and clean drinking water to those who live in the Holy Cross and Lakeshore – Lake Vista neighborhoods,” Sen. Landrieu said. “I am committed to building a stronger Louisiana and coastal communities as we continue to recover and rebuild.”
“Today’s announcement of $5.4 million for the replacement of water main lines in the Lakeshore – Lake Vista and Holy Cross neighborhoods is vital to ensuring our residents have safe, reliable drinking water,” New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu said. “Hurricane Katrina left profound impacts on our city’s subsurface infrastructure and these recovery dollars will support the comprehensive infrastructure repairs that are happening all over New Orleans. Through the Recovery Roads Program, we are repairing Katrina-related damages on and beneath City-managed streets. FEMA continues to be an important partner in our recovery.”
The Holy Cross neighborhood was awarded $1.4 million and the Lakeshore – Lake Vista neighborhood was awarded $4 million.
