Mayor Mitch Landrieu joined FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate to announce a final settlement of $2 billion for Hurricane Katrina-related damage to New Orleans’ roadways and subsurface infrastructure, including water, sewer and drainage pipes. The settlement of $1.2 billion in previously unobligated recovery funds brings total to over $2 billion secured under the Landrieu Administration for roads and subsurface infrastructure.

Louisiana Housing Corporation Tackles Rent Stress with $129.5 Million in New Construction and Rehabilitation

The Louisiana Housing Corporation (LHC) board of directors awarded $12.1 million in funding Wednesday to finance the construction and rehabilitation of 952 housing units of affordable housing. The $129.5 million in total development costs is powered by LHC’s issuance of $12.1 million in tax credits which generated $117 million in private funding.

Monthly Online Auction for Adjudicated Properties on Wednesday

The City of New Orleans will host its fourth in a series of online monthly auctions for adjudicated properties on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., subject to a rolling close in the case of last-minute competitive bidding. The City is scheduled to sell about 100 properties throughout the community, where winning bidders will receive full ownership and title insurance for each property. The City also reminds residents that there are over 1,000 properties still available for deposit to begin the research and notification processes before an auction may be scheduled.

City of New Orleans Begins Glass Recycling in the French Quarter and Downtown Development...

Tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 24, 2015, the City of New Orleans will begin glass recycling in the French Quarter and the Downtown Development District (DDD). Empire Services, the City’s collection contractor in these areas, will begin collecting glass on Thursday of each week from properties eligible to receive sanitation services from the City. Eligible residents and small businesses can utilize blue or black bins with the imprinted recycling logo.

The City of New Orleans is in the process of updating its Hazard Mitigation Plan, which provides a detailed overview of the risks that the City faces from hurricanes and other storms events, chemical spills, etc., as well as outlines the strategies to reduce the effects of those hazards on people and property.
