A 2017 Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) Application Workshop will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at the Louisiana Housing Corporation, in the V. Jean Butler Board Room located at 2415 Quail Drive, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70808 at 9:30 a.m. CST.

The Jefferson Parish Dept. of Environmental Affairs, a Keep America Beautiful Affiliate, will partner with the City of Gretna, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Capital Area Corporate Recycling Council (CACRC) to collect household hazardous materials and electronics from Jefferson Parish residents on Saturday, November 5, in the parking lot adjacent to Second Parish Court at 100 Derbigny St., Gretna, LA, from 9:00 am until 12:00 noon.

The $614 million proposed operating budget is completely balanced and continues to invest in top priorities, including public safety, job creation, recreation, streets, housing and quality of life, while delivering high quality services for New Orleans residents.

U.S. Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) led the Louisiana congressional delegation in sending a letterto Julian Castro, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), urging him to quickly distribute $500 million in recently appropriated flood recovery funds via the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu joined City officials and local homelessness service providers to announce plans to establish a low barrier shelter for the homeless at 3101 Erato St. The shelter will be available for those in need of immediate housing, particularly for those who have had challenges accessing services. Dr. Charles Boustany (R-Lafayette) issued the following statement after the Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Council announced that they will award a project grant totaling $7,259,216 to Louisiana’s Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority under the Resources and Ecosystems Sustainability, Tourist Opportunities, and Revived Economies (RESTORE) Act. The primary objective of the project is to address Gulf shoreline erosion and replenish storm surge protection by building an enhanced dune and back barrier marsh habitat in Jefferson Parish

The Justice Department announced today that the Bossier City, Louisiana, Housing Authority (BCHA) has agreed to pay $120,000 and adopt new policies and practices to settle a lawsuit alleging that it discriminated on the basis of race and disability, in violation of the Fair Housing Act.  The settlement must still be approved by the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana

Dr. Charles Boustany (R-Lafayette) supported passage of the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2016 (H.R. 5303). This vital legislation authorizes United States Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) projects and activities to improve maritime infrastructure, support specific flood protection projects, and continue coastal restoration efforts in Louisiana. WRDA has passed the House by a vote of 399 – 25. The bill now heads to conference with S. 2848, which cleared the Senate by a vote of 95 – 3 earlier this month

In June 2016, Governor Edwards announced the formation of the Task Force on Transportation Infrastructure Investment. The Task Force is working to find investment solutions to address transportation needs in Louisiana and will ultimately issue a recommendation to the Governor for legislative action in 2017.

Today at noon, the City of New Orleans will list over 170 new adjudicated properties available for sale at CivicSource.com external link. These properties were adjudicated to the City due to unpaid property taxes. The properties went unsold at tax sale and in many cases have been off the tax rolls for years, not generating annual tax revenues for the City

Mayor Landrieu and City officials reminded residents that new flood insurance rates are going into effect on Sept. 30, 2016. More than 53 percent of all properties in New Orleans were removed from Special Flood Hazard Areas (“A” zones) and as a result, will benefit from more affordable flood insurance
