Mayor Landrieu to Join Partners, Community to Celebrate First Year of Welcome Table New...

On Wednesday, June 24, 2015, Mayor Landrieu will host a special event celebrating the first year of the Welcome Table New Orleans initiative, along with Welcome Table New Orleans participants, the Kellogg Foundation, the William Winter Institute and the Urban League of Greater New Orleans. The event will take place at Mahalia Jackson Theatre and highlight the participants’ racial reconciliation projects and their commitment to the process

New Orleans Selected as Finalist for National Disaster Resilience Competition

U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro announced on Monday that the City of New Orleans has been selected as a finalist to compete in the second and final phase of HUD’s National Disaster Resilience Competition (NDRC). Aligned closely with a companion education and technical assistance effort by the Rockefeller Foundation, HUD’s competition is designed to help states and local communities recover from past disasters while improving their ability to withstand future extreme events through strategic community investments.

Rep. Richmond (LA-02) announced the release of additional disaster recovery grants for infrastructure repair work resulting from a re-evaluation of Hurricane Katrina related damage. These grants, funded through the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will be used to restore roads, streets, and bridges throughout New Orleans.

U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $1.5 Million to Upgrade Infrastructure in Louisiana

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker today announced that the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $1.5 million grant to the city of Walker, Louisiana, to upgrade water services and road access to the Walker industrial park. According to grantee estimates, the project will create 200 jobs, save 859 jobs, and generate $25 million in private investment

City Shelters Homeless Individuals and Conducts Cleaning Under Pontchartrain Expressway

Boil Water Advisory Cancelled for English Turn and Lower Coast Algiers

The Sewerage & Water Board of New Orleans (S&WB), in consultation with the state Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH), has cancelled the boil water advisory for residents and businesses in English Turn and Lower Coast Algiers. The advisory was cancelled after the bacteriological tests confirmed that water in the area was safe to drink and could be used as normal for personal needs

The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (S&WB) has issued a precautionary boil water advisory for English Turn and the Lower Coast section of Algiers. Residents in the affected area are advised not to drink, make ice, brush teeth, bathe or shower, prepare or rinse food with tap water unless it has been properly disinfected until further notice
