This weekend, several City of New Orleans’ construction contractors will continue operating at their job sites during all or a portion of the Memorial Day weekend, Saturday - Monday, May 27-29, 2017.

Tomorrow, Mayor Mitch Landrieu will join Sewerage and Water Board (S&WB), city and state officials, and community members at the Carrollton Water Plant (8800 South Claiborne Ave.) to preview and tour the water tower construction project.

The City of New Orleans construction contractor, Hard Rock Construction, LLC, will close Conti Street at the intersection of Bourbon Street to through traffic beginning Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 8 a.m. through sunset. The temporary closure is necessary for construction crews to identify the actual location of underground utilities that may have settled over time. Public safety is our top priority; residents and commuters are reminded to use caution when driving, bicycling and walking near this construction site.

Congressman Steve Scalise (R-La.) today announced he will lead a bipartisan congressional delegation on his ninth annual Offshore Energy Tour. ‪On May 11, the delegation will meet with stakeholders from the energy industry, tour an offshore production platform and drilling rig, take part in a roundtable discussion with local energy and oilfield services industry leaders

Mayor Mitch Landrieu’s Office of Community Development (OCD) has awarded over $12 million to development partners to create or preserve over 700 affordable rental and homeownership units in the City. The announcement comes during Fair Housing Month, which was created to commemorate of the passage of the Fair Housing Act in 1968.

The City of New Orleans issued an important property tax reminder. At the end of April, residents will receive a supplemental property tax bill with payment due May 31, 2017. On December 10, 2016, New Orleans voters approved a new property tax millage for fire protection and renewed a tax dedicated to drainage projects.

The City of New Orleans announced that it has completed work to increase security measures at the Municipal Auditorium (1201 St. Peter St.). In an effort to secure all access points to the building, the City reinforced all doors, windows and HVAC units with steel panels. Additionally, a 24-hour security detail is stationed at the Municipal Auditorium to prevent illegal trespassing on the property

Survivors of the February tornadoes that struck Livingston and Orleans parishes can receive free disaster crisis counseling. Following traumatic events such as tornadoes and floods, Louisiana Spirit crisis counselors provide an ear for listening, a shoulder to lean on and guidance for establishing normalcy.

That’s the person who can work with you or your contractor to ensure building permits are properly filed and necessary inspections are carried out.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu and City officials celebrated the reopening of the newly-renovated Nix Library (1401 S. Carrollton Ave.) This $320,000 investment includes technological upgrades, infrastructure changes and a new floorplan.

The City of New Orleans announced it will add a fourth debris pass for residential properties from Thursday, Mar. 2 to Sunday, Mar. 5 in the New Orleans East tornado recovery effort. This will allow residents additional time to complete clearing debris from their properties.
